Insurance
Our insurance package is designed to be hassle-free. The daily hire charge includes comprehensive insurance cover so you can get motoring knowing that you are protected in the unfortunate event of an accident.
Cover
Comprehensive cover means you are covered for accidental damage to the vehicle and any liability if the vehicle injures someone else or their property while you are driving it, as long as you're not negligent or irresponsible (for more details regarding insurance exclusions, see our terms and conditions).
Unlike many other motorhome rental companies, our insurance policy covers you for windscreen and tyre damage, overhead and underbody damage (the most common accidents), single vehicle accident e.g you lose control of the vehicle, towing and recovery, as well as theft, fire and vandalism - pretty much everything. In fact, the list of exclusions many other companies have is so long, you'd wonder how they can call it "comprehensive" insurance cover.
Excess or deductible
Insurance excess or deductible is the amount that you are liable for contributing towards the replacement or repair costs. This means that if an insurance claim is made, you pay the first portion of the replacement or repair cost yourself.
Under our insurance cover, an excess (deductible) applies unless you have opted for the Excess Waiver. The Excess Waiver reduces the excess to zero so you don't need to contribute to the cost of replacement or repair in case of accidental damage. The cost of the Excess Waiver depends on the vehicle you hire.
Dart 2 and Dart 4:
An excess of NZ$2500 applies. For just NZ$25/day, you can reduce the excess or deductible to zero. Regardless of how long you are travelling for, you won't pay more than NZ$1250 for the Excess Waiver.
Base Jumper 2, Base Jumper 4, and Longboarder 6:
An excess of NZ$5000 applies. For just NZ$38/day, you can reduce the excess or deductible to zero. Regardless of how long you are travelling for, you won't pay more than NZ$1900 for the Excess Waiver.
Bond
If you choose not to take the Excess Waiver, a bond of NZ$2500 is required when you collect your Dart 2 or Dart 4 or NZ$5000 is required when you collect your Base Jumper 2, Base Jumper 4, or Longboarder 6. This is to cover us should the vehicle be damaged or involved in an accident and if the conditions of hire that you sign are not satisfied eg the vehicle is not returned to the agreed location on the agreed date and time or is not fully refuelled.
If you do opt for the Excess Waiver, the bond required is only NZ$500.
The bond is taken in the form of a credit card authorisation (we do not take a cash bond or hold money on your credit card).

The day the motorhome is returned is counted as a full day regardless of return time. If your intended travel dates cross two different rate periods, your rental will be based on the number of days of hire in each period.
The minimum hire period is usually seven days.
