Ignition Key Won’t Turn and Steering Wheel Feels Stuck

The steering wheel stays in a locked position and the engine ignition key won’t turn when you go to start the engine. This is a built-in security feature in most modern vehicles. The steering wheel lock prevents the motorhome from being steered or started without the correct ignition key. If this anti-theft device is engaged, the steering wheel feels jammed and the ignition key will not turn.

Diagnostic and Steps to Resolve:

  1. Insert key: Place the ignition key into the ignition barrel.

  2. Apply gentle pressure: Turn the key gently forward while keeping steady pressure.

  3. Move steering wheel slightly: Gently wiggle the steering wheel left or right while keeping steady pressure on the key. This will release the locking mechanism.

  4. Start the motorhome: Once the lock releases, the key will turn and the engine can be started.
