Toilet cassette – grey lever (flushing mechanism) will not move

In your motorhome, flushing the toilet is a two-step process: Use the grey lever beneath the toilet bowl to open the flap, allowing waste to drop into the cassette below. Press the flush button to let water flow into the bowl to rinse it clean, then close the flap again with the grey lever. If the grey lever does not move, it usually means the toilet cassette underneath is not inserted correctly. This often happens if the plastic lid or internal flap on top of the cassette was not fully closed when the cassette was reinserted after emptying.

Diagnostics & Steps to Resolve

  1. Remove the toilet cassette from the locker. Step outside the motorhome, open the external toilet locker door, and carefully pull the cassette out completely.

  2. Check the cassette lid and flap. Slide the lid on top of the cassette towards the spout to uncover the opening. You won’t be able to see inside yet because the flap is still closed. Turn the round knob counterclockwise to open the flap fully (now you can see inside), then turn the knob clockwise to close the flap completely. Ensure the sliding lid is fully closed. This ensures both the lid and flap are correctly positioned.

  3. Reinsert the cassette correctly. Slide the cassette gently back into the locker along the rails until it sits flush and clicks firmly into place.

  4. Test the grey lever. Return inside to the bathroom and gently try to move the grey lever again. If it moves freely, the issue is resolved. If it remains stuck, there may be a fault with the internal cassette mechanism. Call Wilderness On-Road Support at +64 9 255 5300 for assistance.
