Water pump runs continuously (won’t stop)

The water pump should only run when a tap (or the toilet flush) is open and pressure is dropping. If it keeps running when you don’t want water, the usual causes are: a tap/shower mixer not fully closed, the fresh water tank is empty (pump is sucking air), or there’s a leak/air trapped in the system.

Diagnostics & Steps to Resolve:

  1. Make sure everything is fully closed
    a. Close the kitchen and bathroom taps firmly
    b. Check the shower mixer is fully OFF

  2. Check water level
    a. At the main control panel, confirm the fresh water tank isn’t empty
    b. If low/empty, refill the fresh water tank
    c. After refilling, open the kitchen cold tap for 20–30 seconds to purge air, then close it

  3. Power-cycle the pump to re-pressurise
    a. At the main control panel, turn the 12V house battery OFF for 10 seconds, then ON
    b. With all taps closed, listen: the pump should run briefly and then stop

  4. Look for obvious leaks (if pump still runs)
    a. Inspect under sinks, around the toilet, and in the shower tray/cabinet for drips or pooling water
    b. If you see a leak, turn the 12V system OFF to stop the pump and contain water

  5. If the pump keeps running or cycles every few seconds
    a. Recheck all taps are fully OFF (a slightly open mixer can keep the pump running)
    b. Open the kitchen cold tap for up to 1 minute to clear any trapped air, then close and listen again
    c. If the pump still does not stop, turn the 12V system OFF at the control panel to prevent noise and wear

Do not attempt to dismantle the pump or plumbing—this can cause leaks and damage.
