Windscreen chip or crack

Windscreen damage from stones or debris is common. Modern windscreens have a laminated inner layer that keeps the glass intact even if cracked, so you can continue driving safely. However, all damage must be reported to avoid liability charges.

Diagnostics & Steps to Resolve:

  1. Identify the type and location of damage.

    1. Chip: Small impact point (usually coin-sized or smaller) where a stone has hit

    2. Crack: A line extending from the impact point or across the glass

  2. Check if it's in the driver's direct line of sight (the area directly in front of the steering wheel, roughly 30cm wide).

  3. Take action based on location:

    1. Inside driver's view (obstructs vision):
      1. Contact Wilderness On-Road Support immediately: +64 9 255 5300

      2. We'll arrange repair or replacement before you continue your journey

      3. Do not drive if visibility is significantly impaired

    2.  Outside driver's view (does not obstruct vision):
      1. Report the damage by calling +64 9 255 5300 (required to avoid liability charges)

      2. Safe to continue your trip

      3. Apply clear tape over the damage to slow spreading (optional but recommended)

  4.  Document the damage. Take a clear photo showing the location and size before you call—this helps our team assess the situation.
