Travel Updates

The Government has announced temporary restrictions on travellers arriving in New Zealand as a precautionary measure to protect against the spread of COVID-19. The restrictions prevent foreign nationals travelling from any country from entering New Zealand. See Ministry of Health for more information.

With the move to COVID-19 Alert Level 2, we are able to reopen our Auckland and Christchurch bases from Monday 18 May. In order to serve you better, we have reorganised our teams and opening days and hours. While we will continue to operate seven days a week, we have prioritised services on the days Kiwis like to travel the most.

You can start your rental on any day except Tuesday or Wednesday. Our adventure support team will be available to assist you in collecting your motorhome from Thursdays through to Mondays. You can end your rental and return your motorhome on any day using our contactless drop off service.

If you are currently on hire, please call 0508 945 337 or email support@wilderness.co.nz to discuss your return or extend your hire if you prefer.

Keeping you safe

The health and wellbeing of all our guests and team members is, as always, our top priority. Our motorhomes have always been thoroughly checked and prepared prior to each rental so that you feel safe and comfortable in the wilderness. Every motorhome receives a deep clean before each rental including disinfecting all surfaces with hospital grade cleaning products, sterilising cutlery, crockery, utensils, and pots and pans plus linen and towels using high temperature washing machines and sanitizers.

Since April 2020, we have put in place strict measures to keep everyone safe and to reduce the spread of COVID-19. These include:

  • increased cleaning and sanitizing of the public spaces and team spaces at our bases
  • educating our team to observe good hygiene practices including washing hands thoroughly with soap and water or with an alcohol-based hand sanitizer
providing additional tissues, hand soap and hand sanitiser for all guests and our team
  • maintaining social distancing
    staying home if feeling unwell
restricting visitors to a maximum of 10 on site for a maximum of two hours
collecting your details on arrival to ensure we are complying with contact tracing requirements

We will continue to respond and adopt the recommended precautions based on the expert advice of the World Health Organization, local government, public health authorities and medical professionals to ensure we play our part in stopping the transmission of this virus.
