Keeping everyone safe

At Wilderness, we are 100% committed to protecting the health and wellbeing of our guests, visitors, team members and the community. 

With this in mind, we have put in place a new health and safety policy for guests and visitors. From 21 December 2021, all guests collecting or returning a motorhome from our bases will need to show their My Vaccine Pass.

We will continue to follow all government guidance for the Covid Protection Framework including requiring scanning the NZ Covid Tracer QR code, maintaining physical distance, and wearing a face covering.

Travel updates for domestic guests

Our team is now able to welcome guests at both our Auckland and Christchurch bases.

In order to keep our team, guests and visitors safe, all guests collecting or returning a motorhome from our bases will need to show their My Vaccine Pass.

Our Auckland Base is Open

Our Auckland base is now open in line with recent government announcements about easing of travel restrictions. Auckland boundaries are now open so guests who are fully vaccinated or have a negative Covid test can leave the Auckland region and tour New Zealand. After 17 January, these restrictions will lift and all guests will be able to cross the Auckland boundary. Read the FAQ section below for more information.

 

Our Christchurch Base is Open

Our team is now welcoming guests to our Christchurch base. Read the FAQ section below for more information.

 

New Bookings

Our reservations team is available 7 days a week to assist you with your booking. We have worked hard to give you the confidence to take the risk out of booking your road trip. Deposits are now refundable* up until 7 days prior to pick up. Should there be further Covid-19 related travel restrictions affecting your ability to travel, we will waive cancellation fees for all guests who opt for a credit for the full amount. The credit can be used on a future booking. See our FAQ section below for further information.

Quarantine-free travel with Australia is suspended

Quarantine-free travel from all Australian states and territories to New Zealand was suspended from 11.59pm Friday 23 July 2021 because of the worsening Covid-19 situation.

 

On 24 November 2021, the New Zealand government announced plans for the staged reopening of borders in 2022. Fully vaccinated New Zealanders will be able to return to New Zealand without the need to isolate in a  Managed Isolation and Quarantine (MIQ) facility from 17 January 2022. A seven-day self-isolation period is required.

 

At this stage, Australians and other foreign nationals will be unable to enter New Zealand until 30 April 2022. A seven-day self-isolation period is required.

 

The government is closely monitoring the situation and these settings may change. For more information about the New Zealand government's plans to open our borders, refer to the COVID-19 website. Refer to the Ministry of Health website for more information about travel alerts for New Zealand.

 

Until these restrictions are lifted, we are unable to welcome Australian visitors.

Travel updates for other international guests

In March 2020, the New Zealand government placed temporary restrictions on international visitors as a precautionary measure to protect against the spread of Covid-19. The restrictions cover foreign nationals arriving from all countries.

 

On 24 November 2021, the New Zealand government announced plans for the staged reopening of borders in 2022. Fully vaccinated travellers will be able to visit New Zealand without the need to isolate in a Managed Isolation and Quarantine (MIQ) facility from 30 April 2022. A seven-day self-isolation period is required.

 

Once travel restrictions are lifted in 2022, our Wilderness motorhomes are the perfect escape! They offer all the comfort and most of the facilities of a modern home plus they’re mobile. So you can stay safe on a motorhome holiday by maintaining your own bubble on wheels.  

 

Our bases in Auckland and Christchurch bases are open 7 days a week. Our adventure support team will be available to assist you in collecting and returning your motorhome as safely and quickly as possible.

 

We urge you to support New Zealand in the post-Covid recovery phase. As a locally owned business, we strongly encourage Kiwis to explore your own backyard and buy local along the way.

Making a new booking

To give you more confidence in making your travel plans, the 30% deposit to secure your booking is now fully refundable up until 7 days* prior to pick up.

*except for hires commencing between 21 December and 8 February

 

If you're looking for the best deal while our borders are closed, don't worry we've already adjusted our prices for the New Zealand market. So you can treat yourself to a safe holiday in comfort and style - at a great price.

 

Making changes to your booking

We realise that due to current uncertainties, you may need extra flexibility with your booking. That's why we have amended our cancellation terms for all new bookings* so that you can cancel your booking at any time up to 7 days** before your rental without losing your deposit. More information.

Keeping you safe

The health and wellbeing of all our guests and team members is, as always, our top priority.

 

We have adopted these practices to ensure the safety of our guests and team under the government's Covid Protection Framework. All guests and visitors must

  • Show your My Vaccine Pass on arrival at our bases
  • Scan our QR code on arrival for contact tracing
  • Maintain a safe social distance and wear a face covering while at our bases.

 

We are a COVID Clean approved company as endorsed by Qualmark. This means that we are equipped with health and hygiene measures to help protect against Covid-19, in accordance with government guidelines.

As always, we continue to thoroughly check and prepare our motorhomes prior to each rental so that you feel safe and comfortable in the wilderness. Every motorhome receives a deep clean before each rental including disinfecting all surfaces with hospital grade cleaning products, sterilising cutlery, crockery, utensils, and pots and pans plus linen and towels using high temperature washing machines and sanitizers.

We have also put a few additional practices in place since April 2020 to keep you safe. These include:

  • increased cleaning and sanitizing of the public spaces and team spaces at our bases

  • educating our team to observe good hygiene practices including washing hands thoroughly with soap and water or with an alcohol-based hand sanitizer and providing tissues, hand soap and hand sanitiser for all guests and our team

  • staying home if feeling unwell

We are committed to continuously responding to and adopting the recommended precautions based on the expert advice of the World Health Organization, local government, public health authorities and medical professionals to ensure we play our part in stopping the transmission of this virus.
