Driving a Motorhome
Whether you’re familiar with driving a motorhome or are considering it for the first time, this could be a great choice for your New Zealand holiday.
It’s understandable that the thought of driving in a foreign country can seem a little daunting at first, but there’s no need to worry. Driving a motorhome is not only a fantastic way to discover the hidden gems of this remarkable country, it’s a lot easier than you think.
All of our Wilderness motorhomes drive like cars. If you can drive a car, you can drive our motorhomes.
Wilderness motorhomes are a maximum of three years old, they’re lightweight, have high performing turbo diesel engines, and include all of the added features of a modern European vehicle including ABS (anti lock braking system) and airbags. Our motorhomes are designed for driving all year round and in all types of weather.
And you won’t need a special licence to drive a Wilderness motorhome. A current driver’s licence from your home country or an International Driving Permit (IDP) for a vehicle of the same class as our motorhomes, allows you to legally drive in New Zealand.
We will provide plenty of guidance on how to safely drive and park your motorhome. However, it is helpful to familiarise yourself with New Zealand’s road rules and conditions that may be different to what you’re used to. We recommend visiting Drive Safe before you start driving. You can also take a short driving quiz which you can get to on the Drive Safe page of our eBook Travel Wisdom: A senior's guide to holidaying in New Zealand.
Convenience and Comfort
You’ll stay warm and dry, day and night, in our well-insulated motorhomes with central heating, which will keep you toasty warm even if you’re not plugged into mains power.
There’s no need to worry about drying your clothes either. Many of our motorhomes have bathrooms which act as a drying room so you have fresh, dry clothes and towels day after day.
Additionally, WiFi is available as an extra accessory in all of our motorhomes so you’ll have no trouble staying in touch with family and friends back home.
Your trip to New Zealand should be the unforgettable holiday you’ve always dreamed of. Enjoy the ultimate freedom, independence and fun of travelling by motorhome.
