Staying connected while exploring some of New Zealand’s most scenic (and often out of the way) spots in a Wilderness motorhome is set to get much easier, with the government accelerating its plans to improve the country’s mobile network and rural broadband coverage.
At Wilderness, we offer unlimited wireless internet in all our motorhomes (subject to coverage), using the Rural Broadband Initiative network. The recent government announcement means that WiFi speed will improve in some areas and add mobile coverage for around 1,000kms of state highway and more than 100 tourism hotspots across the country by the end of 2021 – a year earlier than previously planned.
Popular tourist spots have been prioritised and coverage is scheduled in 2019 for the Far North’s Cape Reinga, and Tane Mahuta in the Waipoua Forest; the historic Buried Village in Rotorua; and the beautiful Blue Lake in Tasman. The Routeburn Track and Milford Sound in Southland will follow in 2020.
An onboard router available from Wilderness is the easiest and most economical way to stay connected while you’re travelling around New Zealand. You can even use your device outside the motorhome up to a range of about 20 metres. Perfect for showing off the scenery in those Facebook Live updates for friends and family!
